Clark's TT: Get out and do it!

Just a reminder to take advantage of your season-end form and throw down on the Clark's Time Trial this month. Regardless of whether you have a result posted or not, now's the time to record a personal best for the season.

Here's the current (as of September 5, 2008) top 10:

  1. 8:58 - Bart Gillespie - June 23, 2008

  2. 9:44 - Todd Neumarker - July 1, 2008

  3. 10:02 - Brad Keyes - June 17, 2008

  4. 10:20 - Danny Van Wagoner - July 2, 2008

  5. 10:23 - Jamie Pogue - June 16, 2008

  6. 10:27 - Eric Rasmussen - July 7, 2008

  7. 10:38 - Brad Pilling - May 20, 2008

  8. 10:38 - Peter McMullin - August 5, 2008

  9. 10:50 - Kenny Jones - September 3, 2008

  10. 10:57 - Rick Sunderlage - May 19, 2008

It should be noted that Brad (3), Jamie (5), Eric (6), Kenny (9) and Rick (10) were riding single speeds.

The following local riders have yet to submit a time (yes, I'm calling you out!) this year. I would hate for the 2008 riding season to end without these folks giving it a go:

Bob Saffell
Blake Zumbrunnen
Shannon Boffeli
Jennifer Hanks
Kathy Sherwin
Mitchell Peterson
Alex Grant
Kevin Day
Dug
Elden (aka Fatty)
Racer Gibson
Chucky Gibson
Robbie Squire
Daren Cottle
Tanner Cottle (by how much can you beat your Dad?)
Art O'Connor
Dave Welsh
Matt Ohran
Dave Harward
Piotr
Chris Holley
KC Holley
Andy H
Adam L
Mike Walkenhorst

Go do it! Excuses can be posted in the comments to this post.

Clark's TT is fueled by CarboRocket.

Mark, you should organize an official/unofficial TT. And $ should somehow be involved.

Right on, call 'em out!

You know who I respect? Erich Kolan for having the guts to submit his 18 minute time and sit at the bottom of the list. I held that spot with my 15 minute time for quite a while.

I heard from a few riders that they wouldn't submit a time because they felt they could do better. What a lame cop out! Show some honor and submit what you got. Once your time is posted it will give you a LOT of motivation to beat it. And it's just the right thing to do, you know it.

Some notable local riders on that list who either haven't done the Clark's TT or haven't submitted a time. Erich Kolan has to feel good knowing he's better than all those folks.

OK, end of sermon.

eat sleep mtb: Maybe Draper would allow a Clark's TT day. I'll bet the local bike shops and other sponsors would put up some $ or prizes.

Problem is that if any of those guys you called out actually do the TT, I'll never have a chance to be top 10 again! KK is right though - if you've done the TT, you should submit your time. It will serve as motivation to go and do it again to move your name up the list.

My reason is not an excuse, but a reason. I'm pretty sure I have raced about 500 more races this year than anyone on that top ten list.

And BP mention of training for 2 hours vs 10 minutes holds true, maybe i will hit it next week, maybe I won't.

Tell you what, I'll do it if you do 3 CX races:)

I'm in on that. I'll even make it easier. 2 CX races for Marky Mark and 1 for KK and I'll make the time to do the TT.

Bob - It's just for fun so who cares if your training focuses on 2 hour efforts instead of 10 minutes at maximum intensity. Plus, I'm pretty sure you can through down a good time regardless. If you're fast in a 2 hour race you'll be fast up Clark's.

I view the list as motivation for the common man more than anything. It's cool for guys like me to have something to shoot for in an accessible, easy to replicate fashion. With no entry, official date or any of the other restrictions or regulations inherent to an actual race, it's a simple way for people to just go out, throw down and see where their time ranks compared to 25+ other locals.

I must admit to being tempted by cross bikes. Racing it - once purchased - is another matter entirely. Besides my crap right knee and Dr. Heiden's recommendation to avoid running, it's just plain COLD during much of cross season. Not to mention all of the mud. I'm not a big fan of getting myself or my bike dirty. I just don't think I'm genetically wired for cross...

oh you are genetically wired for cross, you just need to go past the threshold.

Plus it doesn't get cold till later in the season, and you can use your MTB even your SS in the SS class, so come on do it. It is fun, short and you might just get hooked.

My time was set riding a 29er SINGLE. RIP. The Epic or the CX may have to smash it this weekend. Everyone is wired for cross you just got to get it running through your blood. Its a sickness.

KanyonKris said...

I wanted to try cross last year, but didn't make it. I'll do a cross race this year. But if it's a sickness, not sure I want to get infected. :-)

I dont even know where Clarks is. Maybe you can show me sometime. But I also dont even have a computer to track my time, maybe you can shadow me. Also race cross on your single speed or mtn bike, its fun. none of the courses I have done here require running more than a few steps.

forrest - Use the map and description on the Clark's TT blog. Pretty easy to get to / find. Parking at Coyote Hollow Circle is closest.

For timing I just used the stop watch on my wrist watch - worked fine.

I didn't want to start another fire in Corner Canyon. Maybe since it rained last weekend I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the call-out.

The plan is to give it a go on the cross bike tomorrow with Rico. Tanner's coming so it could be trouble for the Old Man.

I should have timed myself last this week. I rode it on Tuesday and the conditions were perfect!!!! I'll do it, I promise!
