I don't have a coach and I don't play one on TV. I've seen people pick a coach that didn't fit them with bad results based on things like money, and reputation.
If I was going to get a coach I would look for someone who has had success with people with similar goals and situations.
My impartial recommendation is find out who is Stupidbike's coach. Bob has consistently been a better rider every year and he works 40 hours a week. I think Bob may even offer coaching services.
bob is on performance enhancing drugs like everyone else.
turbo does coaching and seems to know whats up. little normy has had every coach in the state and cant seem to find the right guy.
chris davidson has about 20 people and it doesnt seem to me hes the nicest guy to talk to.
atrain knows how to train right but never does.
bart knows what works for him but im not sure if hes into telling people what to do.
everyone else out there just reads greg lemond books and thinks they know how to do intervals.
i just go hard in the big ring till i throw up, then do it again.
see where it got me, im on the couch wondering what happened to glory.
yaa
DH is the man for the job
A guy with a family and fulltime work commitments needs to train on general principles and not on a specefic schedule. A coach cannot know how streefull and/or fatiguing a particular day with work/family are. You are the only one to judge that. Half the fun of compettive cycling is figuring it out on your own. Just my opinion!
I am happy to help you out with some general principles.
I spent the last 3 years expanding a list of training principles that don't work for me. It's gonna be huge by the end of this season.
You motivated me to write a training post.
