Corner Canyon & Snakes

Originally I was going to ride the SLC shoreline trail this afternoon but at the last minute Kris asked if I'd like to meet him in Draper and ride Corner Canyon. The lure of company and Clark's trail was hard to resist and it wasn't long before I was driving south. Departing from the Equestrian Center, we took the BST to Bear Creek where we flipped a U-turn and rode back to Corner Canyon road. We climbed up the road to Ghost Falls and headed down, connecting to Clark's via the Silica Pit trail. Up Clark's to the road, another U-turn and back down Clark's to the BST and we were back to the Equestrian Center. As is our new tradition, we dropped the stairs at the bottom before crossing the road!

Along the way we encountered two snakes: One Gopher snake and another that I couldn't identify. I remarked to Kris that after hearing about the snakes Alder (my son) would be super excited to ride with me in Draper (he loves reptiles). It turns out, however, that he had already caught a snake of his own and was busy setting up an aquarium for his new (temporary) pet. Every spring for the past 2 years he has caught a Garter snake, kept it for a few weeks and then released it.

Ugh. I absolutely hate snakes. Just looking at the pictures is creeping me out.

Thanks for scaring the snakes off the trail so we wouldn't have to deal with them!

You guys (and gal) are wimps! Snakes are your friends. Even my 5 year old daughter loves catching, holding and caring for snakes.

you have strange children

Sound like pretty normal kids to me. But maybe it is strange that his kids are more brave than some adults. ;-)

point taken. ;)

I do not like snakes. Never will.

That said, his kids can't possibly be more strange than mine. Mine are not only afraid of snakes, they're afraid to try and learn how to ride a bike without training wheels.

so, I have the strange kids.

Your unidentified snake is a Western Racer (Coluber mormon). They are common in the hills around Salt Lake.

JE - My kids have clung to training wheels, much to my chagrin. But my boy (the youngest) has his off and he's only 5 (still embarrassing). I'm training him now - running behind him until my back can't take anymore.

Well, I have a 7 (almost 8) and 6 year old that play on each other's fears.

I think it would be easier if one didn't see the other struggle or crash. That makes her want to give up without even trying.

On another note, my change of Saturday plans leave me wanting to grind out 75 miles or so on Friday afternoon. Anyone want to travel from Suncrest to Emigration and back?
