What's your favorite trail in Moab?

After nearly 4 years of mountain biking it looks like I'm finally going to make it to Moab with my bike. Given the fact that I've been subjected to a seemingly endless chorus of hype about how amazing Moab is over that same period of time, I'll admit to being a bit fearful that it won't live up to the hype. Is it really that good? The mecca of mountain biking? I guess I'll soon find out. So to make sure I ride the best trails during my short 2 days in town, let me know which trails you love and any other information I'll need to know in order to get the most out of my trip.

Slickrock is a must for a first time visit.

Sovereign

Amasa Back

Klondike Bluffs is mellow and fun

Gemini Bridges to Gold Spike to Gold Bar to Poison Spider is epic.

Poison Spider out and back

Porcupine RIm is cool, although not my favorite.

That should be enough for two days.

I have not been to Moab in years but I agree with Adam. Do Slick Rock first. After that bo to Porcupine rim. The only bummer is you will need someone to pick you up on the road or it is a long ride back to Moab.

The newly legal Upper Porcupine Singletrack is one of the greatest trails on earth. Sovereign is right up there, slickrock is cool.....the rest of Moab is kinda meh.

First time do Slickrock and the big Porcupine loop, then branch out from there on following trips. I just hope its not too hot down there right now.

Sovereign with the new Salt Wash trails are awesome. My other favorite is to pay $25 to the Poison Spider Bike shop and have them shuttle you up to the top of the La Sal mtns. You can ride downhill through burro pass, hazard county, Kokopelli, UPS, LPS, and Porcupine rim then ride the couple miles of pavement back to the shop. Truly an epic ride and so much fun. Look up "Whole Enchilada" on www.utahmountainbiking.com

No one's mentioned Bartlett or Tusher Slickrock. Well worth checking out just for the novelty- smoothest slickrock you'll ever ride, way smoother than Slickrock Trail, almost like surfing waves on your bike.

Geeky geology info: Slickrock trail is laid out across Navajo sandstone, (actually petrified sand dunes) and offers super-high traction, but is generally a bit rough. Bartlett & Tusher are laid out on Entrada sandstone, from later sediments. It's softer, way smoother, though not as high traction. If you ride there, the red Entrada bands are higher-traction than the white.

Adam pretty much nailed it. If you do Klondike Bluffs, you should also do Baby Steps. I know Kris isn't big on it, but I think it's a way fun trail.

Gemini/Gold Spike/Gold Bar is a great combo. You can come down Portal if you don't want to mess with all the sand on Poison Spider. Poison Spider is fun, though.

If you do the whole enchilada, treat yourself right and rent a freeride bike, wear a full-face helmet and armor, and launch the jumps. I won't do it any other way.
