PB - 11:58

Today's personal best is brought to you by CarboRocket, the exclusive fuel of UtRider. Haven't tried the mango rocket juice yet? Go get some here.

Originally my plan was to contest the Salt Aire TT this evening. That changed when it became clear I needed to fill in as soccer mom and attend my son's practice this evening. Kris was game for a ride up Emigration so I rode from the office and met him at 4:30 by the zoo. Not wanting to miss out on the pain and suffering inherent to time trials, I decided to do an interval up Emigration Oaks. I started the watch after turning left onto E Pioneer Fork Road and stopped it at the top, just past Bart's house, by the big rock. My previous personal best was 12:15 set last spring. While my time was only 17 seconds faster, today's effort beat my previous best of 2008 by over a minute. Average heart rate was only 180 so in theory I could have gone faster since most efforts are in the mid 180's. Maximum heart rate was 196!

Texting Fox while I waited for my son to finish soccer practice, I learned that a fast time would be in the neighborhood of 7-9 minutes. Apparently some have even completed the ascent in the big ring. Others have done it while towing a loaded child carrier. While I won't be attempting any of those feats, I should be able to further decrease my time over the course of the year.

Tomorrow I turn my attention to the dirt for an evening session on the SLC BST. Scheduled departure is 4:30 pm from the zoo. Pace will be conversational. You coming?

nice.

I missed you out at Saltair. I, too, set a PR. I'll give the good, bad and ugly of it after my work shift is over.

You kicked it good up the Oaks! I could only whimper as I watched you go off. I'll blame it on a stomach still loaded with Walnut Shrimp from lunch. I slowed to a crawl the last 50 yards of the first long climb - pathetic.

It was still a good day to be out on the bike.

I ride that hill a bit, good push. Now I think I need to time myself.
Yesterday was a good day for it as the tailwind was good, timing is everything on that hill, don't do it in the am.
why did'nt you stop for a cold drink after?

I always like hearing about and trying local TT spots. I'll have to give that one a shot. If I can make the zoo Ill bring you a can of the kiwilime to try out.

Any idea what the elevation gain and distance is on that?

its 1.9 miles around 700 foot gain,
another mtb TT is the dry creek point to point, starts at the roller at the bottom of dry creek canyon up the first climb in 8 to 9 mins, across over to bobsled, down into city creek when you hit hte pavement, 28 mins flat. try that on a dork bike.

Bart, if we would have been thinking ahead we should have dropped off a gift for the new baby.

We're welcome for drinks, eh? Now I'll never have a good TT up there - I'll be unable to go past your house without stopping. ;-)

"try that on a dork bike"

I bet he will and I for one can't wait to hear how it goes.

Your google/bikely maps is one reason I think blogspot is better than wordpress. Wordpress doesn't like the coding and I either can't figure out how to make that stuff work or I just don't have the patience to figure it out.

Anyhow, cool ride.
